3. Top CEO pay equals 3,489 years for typical worker

    pieceinthepuzzlehumanity:

The median CEO salary of $9.587 million:

HOW LONG IT TAKES OTHERS TO MAKE THAT MUCH: A minimum wage worker would have to work 636 years to make that much. A person making the national average salary would have to work 244 years to make the median CEO salary.

BY THE HOUR: If you assume the CEO works a 60-hour week, the pay comes to $3,072.84 per hour, or $51.21 per minute. To put that in perspective, the minimum wage worker would have to labor more than 10 weeks to make what the median CEO earns in an hour. It would take the average U.S. worker nearly a month to make what the average CEO makes in an hour.

COMPARED WITH AMERICA’S CEO: The CEO who made the median salary took in 12 times the total $789,674 in gross income that President Obama reported last year. But it is less than half the $20.9 million in income that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney reported in his tax filing.

Critical Mass is a worldwide protest on the last Friday of every month. In cities around the world, bicyclists form large packs and ride through the streets. They aim to draw attention to the need for bike lanes and cyclist rights.
They also can cause a headache for city administrators. “They hate us,” explains this protestor, posing in front of the group’s police escort. “They herd us like cattle, and ticket us for anything they can.”
This reminds me of one of the chief conflicts underlying the Occupy Wall Street protests:
The right of protestors to assemble vs The right of the City to maintain order

Ran into this today, only in DC.
While I do agree that cyclists should have their own lane, riding in the middle of traffic to protest this only puts everyone else at danger. I nearly hit a few of them today and it really pissed me off as well as the other drivers on the road. Especially in a city, they’re only making traffic worse and causing accidents. There are other ways to go about protesting this without involving other drivers who don’t want to be a part of your cause.
Self-entitlement has really gotten out of hands in the US :/

Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: Twelve-year-old Damon Boyer-Marwood was walking home from school Thursday when he heard an animal cry, so he followed the sound. When he came upon a group of kids holding down a small female dog and taking turns kicking it and beating it with a cricket bat, Damon told the boys to take a hike.
“They stood there for a bit, then they ran inside,” he said.
A microchip scan by the New Zealand SPCA enabled the battered dog to be reunited with owner Sosefina Leota, who insisted on meeting Damon. “I want to thank him from my heart,” she said. “I want to know his face.”
No doubt Damon saved the dog’s life. Said his grandmother: “It makes you wonder what would have happened if he didn’t step in.”
SPCA inspector Kaycee Polkinghorne said an investigation is under way. “Because of the ages, there’s not a lot we can do prosecution-wise, but it does reinforce the importance of having education in schools about things like this,” she said. “You just have to to wonder what’s going on to make them think this is acceptable behavior.”

Such an awesome kid. I wish more were like him.
